**IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19 and RAMADAM**
Please enjoy Ramadan but follow the guidance on social distancing. If you have a medical condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or lung disease, or you are on medication, or pregnant, or elderly, or in the highest risk group that are asked to stay at home for 12 weeks, please choose alternative options to fasting, in order to protect yourself from Covid-19. The NHS Muslim Network and the British Islamic Medical Association are advising that missed fasts can be made up at a later date in the year.

Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)

The NHS in Redbridge and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

The latest information on symptoms of Coronovirus infection and areas where recent travel may have resulted in a high risk of exposure can be found on nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need medical help and advise you what to do.

Use this service if:

  • you think you might have coronavirus;
  • in the last 14 days you've been to a country or area with a high risk of coronavirus;
  • you've been in close contact with someone with coronavirus.

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone.

Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also catch the virus by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands.

Testing of suspected coronavirus cases is carried out in line with strict guidelines. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of GP surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that come into contact with suspected cases are thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Specific guidance has also been shared with NHS staff to help safeguard them and others. Patients can be reassured that their safety is a top priority, and are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell

IMPORTANT NEWS

General Data Protection Regulations - Come in to effect on 25th May 2018

The GDPR requires the practice to process data ‘fairly’ and in a ‘transparent manner’ which is ‘easily accessible and easy to understand’. This means that we must provide information to patients about how the practice processes patient data in the form of ‘practice privacy notices’.

Practice Privacy Notices

The PPNs cover four key themes: provision of direct care; medical research and clinical audit; legal requirements to share; and national screening programmes.

Privacy Notice 1 - Provision of Direct Care

Privacy Notice 2 - Medical Research and National Clinical Audits

Privacy Notice 3 - National Screening Programmes

Privacy Notice 4 - Legal Requirements to Share Data

If a patient wishes to opt-out of sharing their data they can visit NHS Digital at https://digital.nhs.uk/services/national-data-opt-out-programme#section-1

Change in Telephone System

On 15th September 2017 we upgraded our telephone system to a cloud based system, this has been done in response to patients concerns that they are unable to get through to the practice. The system is capable of handling 50 calls at a time and may result in long waiting times before your call is answered, but unless we are extremely busy it should mean that you get through to the surgery on your first attempt and not get the engaged tone as on the previous system. Once through to the surgery you may be placed in another queue, depending on what option you select.
